There's some good news for Mumbaikars, with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) confident of opening Wadala-Jacob Circle monorail by next year following the completion of phase II.
The planning authority on Sunday launched three crucial spans over the Harbour Line from MbPT yard and Wadala and finished it in 4 hours and 32 minutes. All the three spans of 34.74m, 41.74m and 40.24m in length are 9.6 meters wide and the cumulative weight of the three spans is about 700 tones.
"This was indeed an arduous task considering the length and weight of the spans. However, the same was carried out with some finesse", said Dilip Kawatkar, Joint Project Director (PR), MMRDA. "With most permissions and clearances in hand, we can expect completion of the project sooner than later", concluded Kawatkar.
The Phase-I of the Monorail corridor from Chembur to Wadala was launched last February.
