A massive fire was reported to have broken out near the Deonar dumping ground on Friday night

A massive fire was reported to have broken out near the Deonar dumping ground on Friday night. At the time of going to press, the Deonar Fire Brigade officials had reached the spot and were still trying to douze the blaze. The reason behind the fire has still not been determined.

Distress call
The Mumbai Fire Brigade received the distress call at 8.15 pm on Friday night, which then informed the local authorities and fire officials were rushed to the spot. The fire, reportedly near the Rafiq Nagar area, has also engulfed a few slums nearby. Around six fire engines, along with a water pump and water tankers, were dispatched within minutes, but the fire-fighting efforts were unsuccesful in controlling the blaze.

Level 2 fire
A Deonar fire official, on condition of anonymity, said, "We received a call for a Level 2 fire, which usually means it's a big fire. Since in a Level 1 fire, we send two fire tenders and a water tanker, in this case, we have sent more than six fire engines, and yet the fire is not yet under control."

The smoke has already started spreading across the city and even the traffic in the area has come to a halt due to the fire engines rushing to the spot.
