According to the Pune police, Gosavi was booked for allegedly cheating people on the pretext of providing them jobs in Malaysia. He had put up an advertisement on one of his social media handles, following which the complainant approached him and paid more than '3 lakh. However, he never got the job and later approached the Pune police and got an FIR registered under sections of the IPC and IT Act. "The charge sheet was filed in 2018, the year the incident happened, and Gosavi is shown as an absconder," said Rajndra Landge, senior PI, Faraskhana police station. The Pune cops served him a notice after the charge sheet but he never responded to it. "After the selfie with Aryan went viral, someone alerted us and we started a fresh search for him. He has been on the absconders' list since 2018," a senior officer of Pune police told mid-day.

Gosavi also has two cheating cases registered against him in Thane's Kapurwadi police station in 2015 and 2016. In 2007, he was booked by the Andheri police in a cheating case. According to the Thane police, the cases registered there are under trial. "He is not wanted in the cases as the charge sheet has been filed," a senior officer of Thane police station said.

According to Mumbai police sources, Gosavi was booked in a cheating case in 2007 when he was just 20 years old. "He was supposed to deliver a credit card and some documents to someone, but instead of that, he along with another accused made a purchase of '17,500 from the card," an officer told mid-day. The officer further said that he was acquitted by the court.
