Man booked for allegedly carrying revolver to PM Modi's rally in Mumbai

BKC cops booked a 39-year-old man from Bhiwandi for allegedly carrying a loaded revolver to the rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The accused claimed to be a Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha worker had come to attend the rally. The cops noticed a man walking towards the sitting arrangement having something tucked in his pants. The suspected man was detained and during his frisking, cops found a US-made revolver. The man had license for the revolver.

PM Modi visited Mumbai on 19th January and inaugurated infrastructure projects and metro. The inauguration held at BKC at MMRDA grounds. Hundreds of policemen and additional forces were deputed for the security of the dignitaries and public. During the meeting, at around 5.10 pm, Hanmant Salgare, Police Sub inspector, Matunga police station, noticed a man walking towards metal detector of Ground number 2 was walking differently.

Salgare immediately alerted constable with him and detained the person. "Cops frisked him and found a revolver tucked on the left side of his body. He was immediately taken to BKC police station for further inquiry," said an official from BKC police station. Police recovered a US-made weapon from the man.

During investigation, the man identified himself as Shrikant Gaikar (39), from village Wahuli, Bhiwandi. "According to preliminary investigation, he is worker of Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha. He had the license for the revolver and it was fully loaded," said another officer.

BKC cops booked Gaikar under Maharashtra Police Act 1951 section 37(1) (power to prohibit certain for prevention of disorder) 135 (disobeying of law, rule or directions). "We have booked the accused and served him notice for further investigation. Prima facie it appears that, he had no other intention to carry the weapon. But the investigation is on," said Vishram Abhyankar, Senior Inspector of BKC Police station.

Armyman held who forged his ID card

In another case a BKC cops arrested a 35-year-old man from Airoli, Navi Mumbai for carrying a forged ID card of NSG commando. The man identified as Rameshwar Prasad Mishra (35). He was trying to sneak into the rally through VVIP gate. "The man was with NSG as a commando till 2019 and now a serving Armyman. He had sought to leave from the duty and had come to his home. In order to see the PM he had come to the rally and forged his NSG ID card and extended its validity date.

Mishra has been booked under IPC section 171 (Wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent), 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), and 471 (forging genuine document). Mishra was produced in Magistrate court. He has been remanded in police custody till Monday; 23rd January.
