While a mob of about 500 angry locals surrounded the car near Rehmaniya Hotel, the police reached the spot on time and rescued the woman, who is a make-up artist, and her co-passengers.
The police said the woman, identified as Humeira Patka, was arrested and a blood test showed that she was not drunk at the time of the accident.
Around 12.45 am, the police control room received frantic calls from Dongri residents saying that a red car had knocked down several people and the woman at the wheel appeared to be drunk. The Dongri police who were out with full strength for a routine combing operation rushed to the spot.
"When we reached Rehmaniya Hotel, we found a mob of around 500 residents around a red car. There were 3 women in the car," said an officer from Dongri police station. "Women cops rushed forward and brought the women out, while the other staff tried to pacify the angry crowd," said the officer.
