Two people were injured in a tree fall incident at Gopalrao Nagar in Kalwa area of Thane district in Maharashtra on Thursday, the officials said.
According to the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), the tree fall also caused damage to five houses apart from leaving two individuals injured. The mishap occurred around 15:00 hours. Following the incident, the Disaster Management Unit officials acted promptly and the officials along with Tree Authority Department, Disaster Management Room staff, and the fire brigade rushed to spot for rescue and relief operations.
The officials said that a huge tree collapsed near Hira Patil Chawl near the railway line at Gopalrao Nagar, Kalwa. The fallen tree struck a total of five houses, resulting in varying degrees of damage to their roofs. The incident came to the attention of the authorities through the Jawahar Bagh Fire Station, who immediately dispatched personnel to the location.
Upon reaching the site, officers and staff from the Tree Authority Department, along with the Disaster Management Room staff and fire brigade personnel, swiftly took control of the situation. They have been actively engaged in the task of cutting and removing the fallen tree for the past one hour.

In the incident, two individuals sustained minor injuries and were identified as Durvesh Bhoir (20) and Manjusha Kevad (26). Durvesh Bhoir suffered injuries on his hand, leg, and stomach, while Manjusha Kevad sustained injuries to her head, left leg, and hand. Both injured persons were immediately taken to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa for medical attention.
The affected houses suffered damage mainly to its roofs, the officials said.
Meanwhile, last month, a 70-year-old woman died and two people were injured when a dead branch of a jamun tree fell on them from a private society in Malad East. This was the fourth death in the city due to tree collapses this monsoon. The incident took place at 4.30 pm at Bachani Nagar, Malad East on July 11.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) records, the dead branch fell from a jamun tree in the Murmumal Mansion private compound onto Jai Bhavani Marg. Two women and a three-year-old child were walking on the road when the branch fell on them.
