The state government has ordered a probe in the teachers' eligibility test (TET) scam that had come to light a year ago. In another step, it was decided to dismiss teachers who have not passed TET despite repeated attempts. "The scam happened because agencies that were not competent to conduct the test were hired. The government will find who hired them at the Mantralaya level during the previous government. The guilty will be brought to book," Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the Assembly on Wednesday. BJP's Sanjay Kute had raised the question.

Clean chit for kin

Fadnavis told the house that the daughters of agriculture minister Abdul Sattar were not recruited through TET. "Allegations should be based on facts. It's become a trend to stage a walkout on such issues. We will also respond in the same vein," he told the Opposition. The Opposition walked out of the house protesting against the deletion of Sattar's mention. The question was reserved last week. Ajit Pawar asked why the question was not taken up on Wednesday. "Ministers are giving the benefit to their family," he said. However, when the speaker ruled that the question did not fit the legislative criteria, the Opposition walked out raising slogans.

Failed teachers to be sacked

School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar told the house that teachers who have failed TET repeatedly and exhausted permitted attempts, will be dismissed from service. The matter was raised by BJP's Parag Alavani, who said the teachers were recruited in the wrong manner.

Recruitment to be scrapped

Medical Education Minister Girish Mahajan announced that the nurses recruitment done by the Maharashtra Nursing Council will be scrapped because of irregularities. The violation was brought to the house's notice by Kute. Mahajan said that he had received complaints against the Council's chairman for his whimsical working style. "Recruitment was done without seeking government nod. We will scrap the jobs given and inquire about the charges against the chairman and other office-bearers of the nursing council," he announced.
