A 17-year-old boy allegedly axed his mother to death in Palghar district of Maharashtra after seeing her messaging someone from her mobile phone, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place on the intervening night of Sunday-Monday in Parole area of Vasai township, they said.
The boy doubted the character of his mother, Sonali Gogra (35), and the duo had frequent quarrels over it, inspector Ashok Kamble from Mandvi police station said.
While the boy was having dinner on Sunday night, he noticed his mother messaging someone on the mobile phone and got annoyed. He then pulled out an axe and allegedly hit her with it, the official said.

The other family members were not present in the house at the time of the incident, he said.
The severely injured woman was rushed to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Bhiwandi where doctors declared her brought dead, he said, adding the body was sent for postmortem.

A case was registered under Indian Penal Code Section 302 (murder) against the accused who was yet to be apprehended, the police said.
On Monday, a man facing criminal charges in Kalyan town of Maharashtra's Thane district was detained under provisions of the stringent Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act.
More than half-a-dozen cases, including for unlawful assembly and attempt to murder, had been registered against the accused, Sajid @ Shannu Mohammad Akil Shaikh (25), at various police stations in Kalyan, senior police inspector AB Honmane of MFC police station told PTI
The accused was on Saturday detained under the MPDA and lodged at the Yerawada prison in neighbouring Pune district for one year, the official said.
Meanwhile. hours after the brother of a suicide victim chopped off his own finger over alleged inaction from the police, the Thane Police Crime Branch on Saturday arrested four accused in connection with the case. On August 1, Nandkumar Nanaware and his wife Ujjwala died by suicide in their Ulhasnagar residence, after recording an over five-minute video clip, in which they named several people as responsible for suicide.
They sent the video to several prominent personalities as well as police officials before taking the extreme step and the police also recovered a suicide note from Nandkumar's trouser pocket. Nandkumar had formerly worked as Personal Assistant to Jyoti Kalani, the wife of Pappu Kalani, who is a political leader from Ulhasnagar.
The police had subsequently filed an FIR against one Sangram Nikalje and other unknown persons, charging them with section 306 (abetment to suicide) under the Indian Penal Code. Nandkumar's brother, Dhananjay, had appealed to the police top brass to transfer the case to the Crime Branch, and the probe was handed over to the Anti Extortion Cell on August 11. However, on Friday morning, Dhananjay had chopped off his own finger after seeing no progress in the investigation. (Agencies)
