An unidentified person reportedly hurled stones at former MP Nilesh Rane's car when he was on his way to a public event in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri district on Friday, triggering a clash between BJP and Shiv Sena (UBT) party workers, the police said, reported the PTI.

The incident occurred near Patpanhale College in Guhagar taluka on Friday afternoon, an official said, as per PTI.

Supporters of Nilesh Rane and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Bhaskar Jadhav clashed with each other, prompting the police to fire tear gas to disperse the mob, the official from Guhagar police said, according to the PTI.

Someone allegedly pelted stones at former MP Rane's car when he was on his way to attend a public meeting, he said.

BJP workers assembled at the scene, and workers from both parties started pelting stones at each other, the official said.

While a few cars were damaged in the clash, the police are gathering information about injuries to people, he said.

The police are in the process of registering a first information report (FIR), the official said.

Nilesh Rane is the elder son of Union Minister Narayan Rane and brother of BJP MLA Nitesh Rane.

Meanwhile, Union minister and senior BJP leader Narayan Rane on Wednesday hit out at Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange for threatening to disrupt Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rallies in Maharashtra and said that Jarange has crossed all limits, reported the PTI.

"Manoj Jarange made a loose and senseless comment that he would make it difficult for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit any place in Maharashtra. He has crossed all limits. I dare you to even move from your place when PM Modi visits Maharashtra. I do not consider him a leader of Marathas," Narayan Rane said.

The activist, who is on hunger strike, has crossed all limits, Narayan Rane, himself a prominent Maratha leader of Maharashtra BJP, said in a post on X.

"It seems he has had some mental shock and he is making comments that do not make any sense," the former chief minister said, adding that the activist should know his "limited worth" and "stay in bed."

Manoj Jarange, who is leading the Maratha community's agitation for reservations in jobs and education, is on indefinite fast at his native Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna district.
