For SSC and HSC students in Maharashtra, their respective schools and junior colleges will be the exam centres this year and extra time will be given to complete the paper as there has been no writing practice for students since the schools were closed. The school education minister Varsha Gaikwad on Saturday announced special measures to be taken during the Maharashtra State Board examination to ensure the safety of children amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
If any student fails to appear for the exam due to reasons related to COVID-19, such as getting infected or place of residence under containment zone, they will be given another chance to write the examination in June. This year, practical examinations will be held after written exams.
For HSC science students regular practical assessments will be held, but for other streams of HSC and for SSC, practical assessments will be based on assignments or project works to be submitted after the written test.
The state education minister also requested Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to consider teachers and board exam staff as frontline workers and get them vaccinated.

Gaikwad said, "The objective is to provide a completely safe and stress-free examination experience. It is very important that students and parents refer only to the official website of the Maharashtra State Board for clarity on special measures."
For every three-hour paper, which is of 80 marks, 30 minutes additional time will be given to the candidates and for a two-hour paper, which is for 50 marks, 15 minutes of extra time will be given. For students with special needs, for every one hour of the exam duration, additional 20 minutes would be given.
"Those who would not be able to appear for the exam due to any reason related to the pandemic will be given one more chance in June when board exams will be held at specific centres. Apart from this, students will have regular repeater exams as usual which will be held in August," Gaikwad added.
