While CBSE has announced its methodology, the state board is yet to spell out the formula for assigning scores without the exam

Following CBSE, the state board also cancelled Std X exam this year

The announcement of passing criteria and a tentative date for Class X results by the CBSE has triggered anxiety among state board students and their parents as the Maharashtra government is yet to spell out its methodology.

Secondary School Certificate (SSC) students are keen to know what happens to their score without examination and, more importantly, how their Class XI admission will be determined.

Following the Central Board of Secondary Education's decision to cancel the Class X exam due to the COVID pandemic, the state board too scrapped the test this year. With CBSE's evaluation formula for students already out, SSC students and their parents want clarity from the state without any delay.

"Yes, cancellation of examination has provided relief, amid pandemic. But it is just half the information. Without knowing how fair and transparent scoring will be ensured, we cannot be completely stress-free," shared Kedar Chitre, a student from Kandivali.

Anubha Shrivastava of India Wide Parents Association said ICSE has already asked schools affiliated with it to continue with Class XI admissions so that studies can begin. "Now CBSE too has provided clarity to affiliated schools regarding Class X evaluation. But the Maharashtra government has still kept lakhs of students waiting. This uncertainty is taking a toll on their mental health as there is absolutely no option but to wait cluelessly," said Shrivastava.

‘Class XII' trends on social media

Meanwhile, #CancelClass12Exam trended on Twitter as the pandemic continues to inject more uncertainty. "Around 1million users tweeted about this on Saturday as the count continues. It is unfortunate that Class 12 students are not given the same importance as class X," said Shrivastava.
