The pandemic, tension of the SSC exam, fear and losing practise of completing lengthy exam papers in three hours - 10,764 pupils from the Mumbai divisional board managed to get more than 90 per cent despite all this. mid-day spoke to two of them. Ayush Patil and his classmate Ojas Yadav, both students of Dadar's Balmohan Vidyamandir, managed to breach 99 per cent, missing the 100 per cent mark by a very small margin. Ojas scored 99.04 per cent.
Ayush who scored 99.40 per cent, said it was beyond expectations. "I did work hard but did not expect to score 99 per cent. All thanks to my school principal, teachers and my parents who helped me cope with my nervousness and anxiety. I want to pursue the medical field, so I will opt for science after this," he said.
Another student, Sairaj Parab from Thane's Sankalp English school, scored 96 per cent but was very disappointed. "I expected to score 98 per cent and above. I am really disappointed and have decided to apply for a re-evaluation. Two years were very tough, in fact until November 2021 my preparation for the SSC exam was zero. Only after my sister and mother started encouraging me, I started taking it seriously and completed my studies. I will opt for a diploma in IT and later pursue engineering," Sairaj said.

Rupa Roy, principal of Balmohan Vidyamandir, said that she was very apprehensive about the performance of students in the exams after two "terrible and weird" years education-wise. She said, "The results this year are better than what I expected. The period was full of anxiety and fear, I was apprehensive about how well we would do. In our school 27 students scored above 90 per cent, two of whom scored above 99 per cent. Overall the results are good this year."
