A senior citizen who allegedly was a victim of an extortion racket died on Thursday, a day after he consumed poison at Bhayander. As per the statement of the 65-year-old man given to the police during his hospitalisation, he was under immense mental stress as his paramour's son and daughter-in-law regugarly extorted money from him. The senior citizen was being allegedly blackmailed with a video that had captured his intimate moments with his paramour.

No longer able to fulfil the financial demands of his blackmailers, the senior citizen, who was resident of RNP Park at Bhayander East, consumed poison on October 18. He was immediately rushed to Wockhardt Hospital at Mira Road by his family members. In his statement to the police, the senior citizen said that he had paid substantial money to his blackmailers in the past six months. The suicide victim's daughter said their family has been devastated by the untimely and unnatural demise of her father. Hoping to get justice she said those responsible should be held accountable and punished.

Akhilesh Mishra, a friend said, "I've known him for 20 years as a good-hearted person. He appeared increasingly distressed over the last few months and whenever I enquired he never told me what was wrong." Akhtar Sheikh, a close friend, said, "This tragedy underscores the devastating consequences of financial stress and extortion. The deceased had confided in me about his tensions and I had advised him to report the matter to the police."
