Maharashtra reports 23 Covid-19 cases, active tally at 133

Maharashtra on Thursday reported 23 Covid-19 cases, which took the tally to 81,36,748, while the death toll stood unchanged at 1,48,417, a health official said.
This was a rise from the 16 cases reported on Wednesday, he pointed out.

Mumbai circle led with 14 cases, followed by six in Pune circle, two in Nagpur circle and one in Latur circle.

The recovery count increased by 30 to touch 79,88,198, leaving the state with an active caseload of 133, he said.

Pune district has 72 active cases, followed by 25 in Mumbai and six in Thane, he added.

As per state health department data, the recovery rate is 98.17 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.82 per cent.

So far, 8,59,87,661 coronavirus tests have been conducted in the state, including 12,913 in the last 24 hours, as per official data.

According to the health department, a total of 2,10,343 passengers have arrived at Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur international airports since December 24.

Of these, 4,621 passengers were subjected to RT-PCR tests to detect coronavirus and 10 reports have so far returned positive.

Of the 10, four are from Navi Mumbai, three from Pune, and one each from Goa, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

Their samples have been sent for genome sequencing to find out the variant causing the infection, officials said.

RT-PCR tests of a portion of travellers arriving at Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur international airports began on December 24 after a rise in cases was reported in countries like USA, China, South Korea and Brazil.
