Maharashtra reported 10 new Covid-19 cases on Monday. As per the data shared by the state govt, 16 patients were successfully discharged, bringing the total number of individuals who have fully recovered to 80,23,071.
The recovery rate of the state stands at 98.18 per cent. There were no Covid-19 related deaths reported in the state.
The case fatality rate remains at 1.81 per cent. A substantial number of laboratory samples have been analysed, totaling 8,75,29,217. Of these, 81,71,727 samples tested positive for Covid-19, constituting approximately 9.34 per cent of the total samples tested.
A total of 376 tests were conducted on Monday. Out of these, 149 tests were conducted in government laboratories, 227 in private laboratories, and none were self-tests.
According to the state govt, a concerning development is the identification of the Omicron XBB.1.16 variant as the dominant strain of Covid-19 within the state. The variant has affected a total of 1,733 individuals, with 19 reported deaths among the cases associated with this variant.
Turning attention to mortality data, since the beginning of this year (January 1, 2023), the state has recorded 131 Covid-19 related deaths. A significant observation is that a majority of these deaths, amounting to 70.99 per cent, occurred in individuals aged 60 and above. Furthermore, 83 per cent of the deceased had pre-existing comorbidities, emphasizing the importance of shielding vulnerable populations and managing underlying health conditions.
Meanwhile, India recorded 26 new cases of coronavirus, and the current active cases stand at 337, as per the latest data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday.
The death toll has reached 5,32,035 as of 8 am, according to the same update. The total Covid-19 case count in the country is now 4.49 crore (4,49,99,392).
The number of recovered individuals has risen to 4,44,67,020, resulting in a national recovery rate of 98.81 percent, as indicated on the health ministry's website. The case fatality rate is reported at 1.18 percent. Moreover, the ministry's website states that a total of 220.67 crore doses of the Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far.
