Maharashtra records over 3K COVID-19 cases; city sees highest number of deaths

As the state continues to record more than 3,000 daily COVID-19 cases, the number in Mumbai too remained over 600 on Friday, with the total tally in Maharashtra reaching 19.61 lakh cases on Friday.

As the state continues to record more than 3,000 daily COVID-19 cases, the number in Mumbai too remained over 600 on Friday, with the total tally in Maharashtra reaching 19.61 lakh cases on Friday.

The state recorded a total of 3,693 cases with 73 deaths on Friday taking the toll to 49,970. While the city recorded 645 fresh cases, the Thane Municipal Corporation area, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan Dombivli Corporation area in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) recorded 118, 77 and 145 cases respectively.

The state's recovery rate saw a slight dip compared to Thursday, and currently stands at 94.75 per cent, as 2,890 patients were discharged. Mumbai's recovery rate stands at 93 per cent while the doubling rate is 364 days. The city's daily growth rate, however, is 0.21 per cent now as the total COVID-19 count reached 2.97 lakh cases. The city has a total of 7,927 active cases.

With a total of 49,970 deaths reported across the state, its mortality rate has reached 2.55 per cent. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state was 1,168. These deaths were of people who had tested positive but later they turned negative and died due to other complications. Meanwhile, a total of 1.3 crore laboratory samples have been collected across the state of which 19.61 lakh have tested positive and the positivity rate stands at 14.79 per cent.

Of the total 73 COVID-related deaths in the state, Mumbai recorded 11 followed by Nashik with seven fatalities. However, six more deaths were recorded in the MMR region apart from those in Mumbai, taking the toll in the region to 17. According to civic officials, out of the 11 deaths, five patients were suffering from other ailments and seven were senior citizens.
