Shiv Sena (UBT) MLAs have responded to the notice on disqualification issued by Maharashtra assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, party leader Anil Parab said on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI.

"We have responded to the notice within seven days as asked," Anil Parab, who is a member of the legislative council, told reporters.

On July 7, Rahul Narwekar had issued notices to 40 MLAs of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and 14 from Shiv Sena (UBT).

The Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena has sought disqualification of 16 MLAs after 39 MLAs led by Shinde revolted against Thackeray's leadership last year.

Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar on July 8 said notices have been issued to 40 MLAs of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and 14 of the Uddhav Thackeray faction, seeking their replies on disqualification petitions against them, reported news agency PTI.

The development comes a day after Narwekar said he has received a copy of the Shiv Sena's constitution from the Election Commission of India, and hearing on the disqualification petitions against 16 Shiv Sena MLAs, including CM Shinde will start soon, reported PTI.

"Notice seeking replies on disqualification issued to 40 MLA of Eknath Shinde-Shiv Sena faction, 14 of Uddhav Thackeray faction," Rahul Narwekar told PTI.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar on July 14 said he had not received the Supreme Court's notice on a petition regarding pending disqualification hearings against rebel Shiv Sena MLAs including chief minister Eknath Shinde.

The Supreme Court earlier in the day said it would issue a notice returnable in two weeks.

A bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud passed the order while hearing a plea filed by Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) MLA Sunil Prabhu, who as the chief whip of the undivided Shiv Sena had in 2022 filed disqualification petitions against Eknath Shinde and other MLAs who rebelled and brought down the Uddhav Thackeray government last year.

"I came to know about the notice through news.... My office has not officially received any notice from the Supreme Court yet," Narwekar told reporters.

"Once I receive the notice, we will study it and respond accordingly," he added.
