In a proactive move to counter the infiltration of illegal immigrants and anti-nationals obtaining Indian passports, the Maharashtra home department has issued a directive instructing police officials to conduct thorough address verification, including visiting the applicant's residence if necessary.

According to the PTI report, the government order, issued on Monday, underscores the importance of preventing illegal immigrants and individuals with malicious intentions from acquiring Indian passports. It addresses concerns raised by central agencies regarding the activities of organized gangs engaged in facilitating fraudulent documentation for illegal foreign immigrants.

These criminal networks have been found to produce counterfeit Aadhaar and PAN cards, often utilizing residential addresses from the northeastern states. Subsequently, these foreign nationals exploit the 'Tatkal Passport' service, influencing police decision-making processes with the assistance of local authorities, the report further stated.

This sophisticated operation poses a significant threat to internal security, prompting the Maharashtra government to take decisive action. By issuing the directive to visit passport applicants' residences, the government aims to enhance the accuracy and integrity of the verification process.
