On Friday, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde addressed the OBC quota issue in the meeting and assured that the government is committed to providing equal justice to all social groups while ensuring the interests of both the Maratha community and OBCs are upheld.
The meeting, chaired by CM Shinde, was attended by Deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, and several ministers and representatives.
During the discussions, CM Shinde emphasised that the government has no intention of reducing the reservation for any community. During the meeting, CM Shinde made it clear that the restoration of canceled reservations for the Maratha community will not adversely affect the reservation for other backward communities, the press statement from CMO office stated.
A significant development highlighted during the meeting was the ongoing proceedings of the committee, led by retired Justice Sandeep Shinde, regarding granting Kunbi certificates to individuals with old Kunbi records.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister directed to speed up the process of starting 72 hostels for the students of Other Backward Communities immediately.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared details about the government's commitment to implement schemes worth Rs. 4000 crore for the Other Backward Communities. Fadnavis also mentioned the Central government's decision to grant constitutional status to the OBC Commission and provide reservations to OBC students in medical admissions.
Further, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has assured that funds would be allocated in the upcoming budget to support the Nomadic Society and its neglected sections. Pawar stated that the reservation status of any entity would not be affected, and funds would be made available to various corporations catering to the welfare of backward communities.
