The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway continues to be in the news. This time, four people died while three others were injured, when the driver of a speeding high-end car smashed into a road divider, and collided head on with a luxury bus near Kasa bridge in Dahanu, early on Tuesday.
mid-day has reported on the condition of the highway, after the deaths of former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry and his friend Jehangir Pandole, in an accident on it.
The four people were headed to Mumbai international airport where two of them were to catch a flight for London. They were driving a Skoda from Surat to Mumbai. "They have been identified as Mohammad Hafeez, 36, Ibrahim Dawood, 60, Ashia Collector, 57, and Ismail Desai, 42. They were residents of Bardoli in Surat," the Superintendent of Police, Palghar district, Balasaheb Patil told mid-day.

"The accident took place at 3.10 am near Kasa bridge, Dahanu," Patil added.

The in-charge of Kasa police station, Assistant Police Inspector (API) Shrikant Shinde told mid-day, "Hafeez was driving the car and lost control of the vehicle. It smashed into the divider, came onto the Gujarat-bound lane of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway and collided head on with a luxury bus. The luxury bus was coming from Pune and was headed to Rajasthan."
"Dawood and Collector had to catch an international flight. We have been told that Dawood is an NRI. All the four deceased lived in the same neighbourhood of Bardoli in Surat. After dropping them off at the airport, the others were to go back to Surat," he added.
The impact of the accident was so severe that the four bodies were trapped in the car, which got badly mangled. Three passengers of the luxury bus were also injured.
"The injured people are undergoing treatment in the government hospital in Kasa," Patil added. The process to conduct the post-mortem was underway at the time of going to the press.
