The Maharashtra education department has started two online surveys for the assessment of SSC and FYJC admissions. The first survey will seek information from schools to know if the internal assessment will be a feasible option to mark SSC students and the second survey is for responses on the conduct of the Common Entrance Test (CET) for FYJC admissions. After over two weeks of clueless wait, the students of SSC and their parents can finally look forward to something.

There have been constant worries over how the assessment will be conducted for board exam results and also on how the First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions will be conducted which are determined by the SSC score. Last month, the state government cancelled Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination taking into account the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

Nearly 17 lakh students had registered to appear for the SSC exam across the state this year and the anxiety levels were rising with each passing day with no clarity on both important aspects after state education minister Varsha Gaikwad declared the cancellation of the SSC exam.

The department has been mulling over several options for some time now along with discussions held with educationists, teachers, other experts among all. Now, the survey is expected to provide more clarity on whether or not those discussed options are feasible.

"This survey is conducted to know if there should be an internal assessment on school level and the schools are prepared for that or not. Internal assessment will be based on online classes, what's app-based teaching and assessment, online tests, term examinations, practice tests. Schools which didn't undergo these processes will assess their students' performance on the basis of performance if the student is in 9th class," stated the survey brief.

Another survey has sought responses from schools on the conduct of CET for FYJC admissions. In this survey, all schools in the state including government, non-government, aided, unaided, self-financed can participate and can indicate whether or not it is possible for them to mark students on the basis of internal assessments.
