Ahead of the start of the second leg of Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra from Gujarat, Maharashtra Congress leaders and workers will walk across the state in a padyatra, to be followed by a bus yatra. State unit president Nana Patole unveiled the sketchy details on Tuesday. He said senior leaders would lead padyatras in various divisions. Patole will take the lead in Nagpur and the Opposition leader Vijay Wadettiwar in Amravati.

Ex-CM Ashok Chavan (Marathwada), Balasaheb Thorat (north Maharashtra), ex-CM Prithviraj Chavan (western Maharashtra) and city unit president Varsha Gaikwad (Mumbai) have been assigned their respective areas. In the Konkan, all leaders will come together. After the padyatras, the party will go on a bus yatra that will have all senior leaders touring together the length and breadth of the state, which will go to local polls soon and also have the Lok Sabha and assembly elections next year. The party expects the observers of 48 Lok Sabha seats to submit their reports by August 15.

"We will talk about the hollow promises the BJP government has given to the people. We will raise the issues that dog farmers, workers, the poor, the youth and women. We will nail the government for its failure on all fronts at public rallies," said Patole, adding that the BJP will also be targeted for its divisive politics. Patole said that they have invited Rahul Gandhi to Mumbai for a felicitation function. "The stay on Rahul ji's sentence has enthused the party cadre. He is the leader who has been fighting the dictatorship without fear. We want to honour him"
