Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole on Monday expressed his party's unwavering commitment to removing what he termed the "authoritarian" government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India. Patole likened the BJP's actions to those of British colonial rulers and criticised the privatisation of key national assets, alleging that the Modi government was selling off public enterprises.

"The BJP is looting the country just like the Britishers did. The BJP government sold railways, airports, power distribution companies, and many other public enterprises. The Modi government is running the country by selling the country's assets. There is an attempt to end the democratic system, the constitution, and the judicial system of the country. But just as the powerful British rule that looted the country was thrown out, the Congress party's objective is to throw out the BJP's authoritarian government," Nana Patole said.

He was speaking to reporters after a review meeting of the North Maharashtra districts of Nashik, Ahmednagar, Jalgaon, Dhule, and Nandurbar on Monday.

Patole said that efforts are underway to implement the recommendations of the All India Congress Committee's Udaipur camp and to strengthen the party organization at the district, block, and village levels.

"The atmosphere in the country has changed and people's support for Rahul Gandhi's leadership is rising. People believe that only the Congress party and the I-N-D-I-A alliance can save the country. It is clear as daylight that the Congress party and the I-N-D-I-A alliance will form the government in all five assembly elections, including Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Madhya Pradesh," the Maharashtra Congress chief said.

Patole said that a 'Nashik Bachao' movement will be launched to save the youth from the poison of drugs. "The discovery of a large quantity of drugs in Nashik is a very serious matter. It is a sin to entrap school and college students in the clutches of drugs and play with their lives. The Congress party is against the mafias and also those who help them. The Congress party's position is that no one involved in the drug trade should be forgiven," he added.

Speaking about the action taken against MLA Kunal Patil's cotton mill, Nana Patole said that the BJP is misusing power. "People who speak against the government are being targeted, just the way it was done in the British Raj. The BJP government is trying to create fear among the opposition. The BJP's double standards are evident from the fact that the Prime Minister accuses people of committing a scam worth Rs 70,000 crores and the same people are made a part of their in two days," he added.
