A motorcyclist suffered injuries after a kite string got entangled around his neck at Sahara Junction in Vile Parle. On Tuesday, 29-year-old Swapnil Gaikar, a resident of Chunabhatti, was on his way home after finishing his work at Kandivli in the evening. Around 5pm, Gaikar, who was accompanied by a friend, passed the Sahara junction bridge between Andheri and Vile Parle when a string got tangled around his neck.

On removing the string, Gaikar noticed that his fingers were bleeding and he felt a burning sensation on his neck. His throat was slit and his fingers injured. Amol Pawar, who was riding pillion with Gaikar, rushed him to SL Raheja Hospital in Mahim for treatment. At the behest of the doctor, Pawar wrote a written complaint and approached the Vile Parle police. Gaikar has been discharged and the police have recorded his statement in the matter.

"I was riding the bike at about 50 kmph. Suddenly the kite string enveloped my neck. The police have recorded my statement but I have not lodged an FIR as I did not know where the kite came from," said Gaikar. "The string which got stuck around my neck was of nylon and sharp due to which I got injured. I will request the government to ban such strings," he added.
