Maharashtra's voter turnout dropped by 4 per cent this time compared to the last election in 2019. The state recorded 59.87 per cent voter turnout. In 2019, the average turnout was 64.1 per cent across the state.
The election to 48 constituencies in the state was completed in five phases starting from April 19 to May 20. As per the data shared by the Election Commission of India (ECI), in the first phase, which saw polling in five constituencies on April 19, a turnout of 63.71 was recorded, which was the highest among all five phases.
In the second phase, where people from eight constituencies exercised their franchise on April 26, a turnout of 62.71 per cent was recorded. In the third phase on May 17, in 11 constituencies, mainly in Marathwada and Western Maharashtra, a 63.55 per cent voter turnout was recorded.
As the election started in semi-urban and urban areas in the fourth phase, the approximate voter turnout was 52.49 per cent on May 13. In the last phase, when 13 constituencies went to the polls on May 20, a 56.89 per cent turnout was recorded. Last time, out of 8.43 crore voters, 5.40 crore people cast their vote, which was 64 per cent.
