IIT-Bombay will use the funds from the fundraising to improve infra, provide scholarships, retain faculty
The Silver Jubilee batch (Class of 1996) of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay pledged Rs 17 crore towards its legacy project. The premier technology institute celebrated its annual alumni day in hybrid mode on Sunday. A legacy project is a project adopted by the batch celebrating its silver jubilee anniversary for the betterment of the institute and of the people associated with it, as a way of giving back to the alma mater and to leave behind a legacy.
Professor Subhasis Chaudhuri, director of IIT-Bombay, gave the visiting alumni an overview of the institute and its growth over the years. "IIT-Bombay continues to be the first choice for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the country and attracts many of the top-ranked students from national entrance exams such as GATE, CEED, UCEED, NET, JAM and JEE. It is a matter of immense pride that 43 out of the top 50 rankers in the JEE exam joined IIT-Bombay for the BTech programme in 2021," he said.
The Powai-based institute also launched a fundraising campaign titled âGO IIT Bombay' for the year 2021-2022. The campaign aims to raise funds for various campus initiatives ranging from infrastructural development to motivational awards to retain quality faculty for good education standards.
As per information provided by the IIT-Bombay public relations officer, these funds are to be used for purposes such as enhancing undergraduate labs by providing state-of-the-art facilities to students, arranging young faculty awards to attract and retain the best and brightest minds from across the globe as its faculty, providing student scholarships, enhancing hostel infrastructure among others.
