In a major relief to ICSE students, the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) postponed the board exams amid a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases across India.

A final decision will be taken in the first week of June, after reviewing the COVID-19 situation then.

The circular issued by chief executive and board Secretary, Gerry Arathoon, stated, "The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination has decided to defer the ICSE (Class X) and ISE (Class XII) board examinations which were scheduled to be held from May 4, 2021. The Covid situation will be closely monitored and the deferment of the ICSC and ISC 2021 examinations will be reviewed and a final decision on the conduct of the board examinations will be taken by the board in the 1st week of June."

"While the ISC examination will be conducted at a later date the candidates of the ICSE examination will be given two options. They can either write the offline examination along with the class XII candidates or not write the offline examination at all. In view of the ICSE candidates opting for the 2nd option, the council will develop a fair and unbiased criterion while preparing the results of such candidates," the circular further read.
