Humidity going to be a killer over next few days, says IMD

Mumbai and its suburbs may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers over the next three days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted. Meteorologists have also warned of high relative humidity making it uncomfortable.

As per IMD's district-wise forecast, dry weather conditions are likely in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar. The weather bureau predicted (green alert) light rain on April 25 and April 27 with thundershowers in Mumbai and Thane. The IMD has also issued a forecast (yellow alert) of moderate rainfall, with thundershowers and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) at isolated places in Mumbai and Thane.

Mumbai's daytime temperature on Monday was 32.7 degrees Celsius as recorded at Santacruz observatory with a relative humidity of 68 per cent, whereas Colaba observatory recorded a daytime temperature of 31.8 degrees Celsius with a relative humidity of 76 per cent.

The weather agency said maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 35 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius.

Vagaries of the Weather, a private weather blog, stated, "From April 24 to April 27 there will be no heat wave..it will be normal temperatures. Temperatures in Mumbai are likely to hover around 33 to 34 degrees Celsius, but with high humidity making it sweaty and uncomfortable. Real feel around 37 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, eastern townships like Navi Mumbai, Panvel, and Karjat are likely to touch 40 degrees during the same time, with light thundershowers expected from April 25 to April 27.
