Heavy rains trigged a landslide on the Pune-Mumbai expressway which caused traffic chaos and disruption for more than five hours

Heavy rains trigged a landslide on the Pune-Mumbai expressway which caused traffic chaos and disruption for more than five hours.

The landslide led to traffic being diverted to the old-Pune Mumbai road via Lonavala. The Traffic Police also used one lane of the Mumbai-Pune expressway for passengers travelling towards Mumbai.


Authorities work to clean up the road bloackage caused by the landslide on the Pune-Mumbai expressway.

The incident took place on the Pune-Mumbai expressway at Rajmachi point near Khandala tunnel on Monday at around 10 am. A huge rock fell on a car and the highway police rushed the driver to Lokmanya hospital. He was discharged after receiving first aid.

Highway police's Sunil Sonawane, Superintendent of Police, said, "Our team is trying our best to clear the road. The landslide took place around 10 am and since then our highway police along with Pune rural police and team from IRB is trying to clear the road."


Authorities work to clean up the road bloackage caused by the landslide on the Pune-Mumbai expressway.

The debris was cleared after three hours and the traffic back to normal in no time.

Meanwhile in other incidents, landslides were reported at Pratapgad Fort, Bhor-Mandhardevi road and Karla area in the last 12 hours.
