Ghatkopar hoarding collapse: BMC to demolish three illegal advertising structures, say officials

The rescue and relief operations on Tuesday continued, after a huge hoarding collapsed in Ghatkopar area following dust storm and rains in Mumbai, the officials said.

The authorities said that they will take atleast 24 hours to clear the debris as they are manually cutting it and fear some people may still be trapped under the collapsed structure.

Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will demolish three three illegal hoardings in the nearby area located close to the BPCL petrol pump, the officials said on Tuesday.

The Mumbai Police have registered a case against the owner of Ego Media and others after the entire advertising hoarding structure collapsed on a petrol pump in Ghatkopar area on Monday.

The owner, Bhavesh Bhinde, and others were booked under sections 304 (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 337 (causing hurt to another person by acting rashly or negligently) of the Indian Penal Code, the police said on Monday night.

The death toll in the hoarding collapse incident in Mumbai rose to 14 while 75 others are injured, the officials said on Tuesday as rescue and search operations continued a day after the tragedy.
