Ghana national detained for cocaine smuggling at Mumbai Airport

A Ghana national was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau at Mumbai Airport on Tuesday for allegedly trying to smuggle cocaine in India by concealing it in his belt.

Early on Tuesday morning, a Ghana national, who was flying to Kolkata, was arrested at the Mumbai domestic airport for allegedly while trying to transport a small consignment of cocaine.


Akufo Nana

The accused, identified as Akufo Nana, is a Ghana national who travelling to Kolkata by Indigo flight No 6E-319 from Mumbai.

The CISF staff while frisking the passenger detected five packets of white powder concealed in his waist belt.

The powder was checked with the help of an ETD machine, which confirmed that it had 23% cocaine in it.

The airport police was immediately apprised of the situation. Since the passenger wasn't able to give a satisfactory reply to the officials about the cocaine found on his person, the matter was referred to the local police.

The police started an investigation into the matter and confirmed that the powder was pure cocaine weighing about 20 grams. The passenger has been handed over to the police for further legal action.

According to the officials, there was a zip chain in his belt in which the African had hidden the narcotics. The police have filed an FIR under the NDPS Act.

The accused has told the police that he received this consignment from Delhi and was going to hand it over to someone in Kolkata.
