Motorists using the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road should brace themselves for more traffic as concretisation work of the Aarey main road, between Aarey Market to Aarey Hospital, has begun, leading to diversion of those travelling via Aarey to JVLR.

A notice has been posted at several places in Aarey which states, "As road concretisation work is required to be done with immediate effect at 1,100 m from Aarey Market to Aarey Hospital on Aarey Road under Dindoshi traffic division. 24-03-22 at 00.00 hrs. It is temporarily ordering changes in traffic movement from the time till the work is completed. (sic)"

The notice pasted at several places in Aarey Colony, informing motorists of the blocked road and alternative routes

While the notice reads that the work was slated to start on March 24, the road was blocked late on Saturday, March 26.

The traffic police and civic authorities have also installed several banners at Aarey Colony showing diversions so that motorists don't get stuck.

"The Aarey Road, from Aarey Market to Aarey Hospital, has been temporarily closed for traffic due to road concretisation work under Dindoshi traffic division. Traffic is diverted on alternate routes from unit number 5, unit number 6 and further from Aarey office to Aarey Hospital again," states the press note signed by Nitin Pawar, deputy commissioner of police (Western Suburban), Traffic, Mumbai.

Aarey Colony has more than 40 km of internal roads, connecting 28 tribal hamlets and 32 different units. In 2019, some stretches of roads were repaired apart from the annual repair works before monsoon, but there has not been any permanent solution as majority of the stretch remains pothole-ridden.

The Aarey main road, which connects Goregaon near Western Express Highway to Marol and Powai, is used by many motorists as a shortcut to avoid traffic on the JVLR during morning and evening peak hours. With the section of Aarey road getting closed, motorists might avoid using this road and traffic jams might be witnessed on JVLR.

The contract for construction of concrete roads has been given to two contractors, one will construct the road from Western Express Highway at Goregaon up to Filter Pada and the other will construct the road from the Marol side up to Picnic Point.
