A fire broke out in a canteen of Chitra Cinema in Dadar on Sunday afternoon. The fire was extinguished within a half an hour and around 280 people were evacuated safely, the officials said.
No one was injured in the incident, they said.
As per the information given by the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the department received a call at around 3.15 pm regarding a fire at Chitra Cinema located at B.A road in Dadar (E).
The blaze was confined to the electric over, food items, electric installation and wiring. Fire brigade officials reached the spot as soon as the fire was reported, the officials said.

Additional divisional fire officer D D Patil said, "The fire started in an electric oven and it was small. But as there was smoke, the Theatre management started evacuating the hall as a precautionary measure. We reached the spot, evacuated all and extinguished the fire. No one was injured."
According to the MFB officials there were around 260 moviegoers and 20 employees were present in the cinema hall when the fire broke out in the kitchen.
The management of Chitra Cinema released a statement and said, "The fire, which originated in the canteen area, was swiftly brought under control. The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) responded promptly and effectively, evacuating the theatre as a precautionary measure. We are taking all necessary steps to prevent future incidents, reaffirming our commitment to safety. Our cinema will resume operations shortly after the safety checks are completed.

Meanwhile, in an another incident, one person was killed and another sustained injuries after a massive fire broke out following a gas cylinder blast in Vikhroli area of the city, the officials said on Sunday.
An official said that two individuals were seriously injured after a fire broke out in a hut due to LPG cylinder blast in Mumbai's Vikhroli area on Saturday night.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the two injured in the incident were identified as Dhananjay Mishra (46) who received approximately 99 per cent burn injuries and Radheshyam Pande (45) who had around 92 per cent burn injuries, he was declared dead at around noon by the doctors.
The Vikhroli LPG cylinder blast occurred in a hut in Shreeram Society, Sanjay Nagar, at around 9:35 pm, triggering a fire which gutted electric wiring, installations and household articles, the officials said.
The blaze was extinguished by the public before the arrival of the fire brigade using buckets of water and disconnecting the electric supply, reported the PTI.
The injured persons were admitted to Rajawadi Hospital, the official said, adding the exact cause of the fire is not known.
Dhananjay Mishra was being shifted to Sion hospital for further treatment and his condition is said to be stable, the civic body said.
