Mumbai on Sunday recorded its third lowest maximum temperature of January in a decade, with Saturday's untimely rain bringing the mercury down to 26.7 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD data. Previously, the city's lowest maximum temperature in January dropped to 26 degrees Celsius and 25.3 degrees Celsius in 2014 and 2020, respectively.

Mumbaikars had just started complaining about the short-lived winter in the city when the sudden showers turned the weather pleasant. The slight nip in the air prompted them to take out their jackets and sweaters. However, the pleasantness in the air would last till the middle of this week, as temperature would start rising from Monday.

"When maximum temperature drops, the day becomes colder. Now, the temperature is expected to gradually rise from Monday," said a scientist from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai.

The IMD Mumbai's forecast shows maximum temperature would go up to 30 degrees Celsius on Monday, and rise further to 31 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. The sky is expected to remain partly cloudy, without rain. Active Western disturbances led to attraction of moisture from the Arabian Sea, which resulted in isolated showers. As a result, a drop was witnessed in the temperature.
