The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement on Friday regarding Indian nationals stranded in Russia after being enticed by high-income security helper positions, only to be transported to the Russia-Ukraine border to engage with the Ukrainian army. At least three individuals have been injured at the border, with one unreachable after sustaining a sniper shot. The MEA acknowledged, "We are aware that a few Indian nationals have enlisted for support roles with the Russian army.
The MEA also said that the Indian Embassy has regularly taken up this matter with the relevant Russian authorities for their early discharge. "We urge all Indian nationals to exercise due caution and stay away from this conflict." the statement reads.
Officials have denied the family's allegations that the embassy in Moscow is unresponsive to their emails. "We have addressed every matter brought to our attention and have been consistently following up with our counterparts. There is no question of neglecting the victims' families," said a source from the MEA.
mid-day reported claims from some families stating there has been no response from the embassy in Moscow, which sources have denied. Additionally, officials mentioned that many youths in Russia are reluctant to return even after being rescued from the red zone area with embassy assistance. The MEA clarified that according to their records, only 15-20 individuals are currently stranded, refuting claims of over 200 people being stuck.
