A list of some free or affordable resources and delivery kitchens that are helping feed those who are Covid-positive or in need of assistance due to the lockdown

Mumbaikars are going beyond their call of duty to assist those in need yet again. Besidesverifying messages about oxygen support or plasma donors, as the number of cases increases, they are also offering to dish out healthy meals for Covid-19 positive patients, or helping arrange for home-cooked food through crowd-sourced resources. The elderly, the immunocompromised, and those living alone can also avail of some of these services. Here is a selection of such lists and tiffins:

Last week, city-based chef Saransh Goila put out a call for people who were volunteering to cook for Covid-19 positive patients and healthcare workers. On April 25, he launched CovidmealsforIndia.com. The platform allows those in need of simple meal deliveries to find restaurants, caterers and tiffin services, sorted by state and city. There are many options for kitchens that deliver all over Mumbai. The site also lets service providers register themselves.

Twisted Tiffin
Twisted Tiffin, which delivers in Pune, Mumbai and Chennai, is based out of Andheri and delivers from Borivali to Churchgate and Powai to CST for now. Hussain Jagmag, who is handling the operations in Mumbai says, "We deliver homestyle nutritious meals on a daily basis via a subscription model at affordable prices." The vegetarian meals include chapatis, dal, rice and vegetable and the non-vegetarian meals include chicken or egg gravy. In a menu that changes every week and ranges from Rs 116 to Rs 152. The meals are hygienically packed with double layer packaging where outermost layer is a tamper proof cover and another is sealed meal tray.

Spicey Dicey
Santacruz-based Spicey Dicey, which is run by Alpa Chheda and Kishore Chheda from their home delivers, food on-demand as they believe people should be happy even through their sickness. Priced at Rs 200 plus delivery charge, they serve Gujarati specials and other traditional items including Sev Tameta for lunch, and pasta and more in the evenings. Delivering anywhere in Mumbai, they take orders one day in advance.

SIN: Sindh
Run by Goregaon-based Vandana Talreja, this service delivers homemade vegetarian food, low on spice or oil, anywhere between Borivali and Andheri. With meals priced differently based on requirement and start from Rs 4,500 per month to Rs 9,000 per month in a five and seven-day option. The menu, which is shared on the preceding Saturday includes rotis, dal, rice, vegetable and salad depending on the number of people. A-la-carte options are available with a three-hour notice.

Delivering meals to homeless, elderly people living alone
Actor and writer Tara Deshpande is, on a limited basis, cooking and delivering free meals to those who do not have access to food easily during the crisis in South Bombay. These include those who are homeless and living on the streets, elderly who are living alone and those who are jobless and without any income. The meals can be picked up from the location, which will be shared with the person, through the email id studio.culinary@gmail.com. All those who wish to place their orders, can do so.
