After Chikhloli, yet another suburban station is taking shape, this time on the Thane-Vashi line. Dighe junction will be the first swanky station on the Navi Mumbai line with escalators and elevators.

An official of the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation that has been involved with the project said Dighe is a part of the elevated corridor planned between Airoli and Kalwa. "The project has land procurement issues as the corridor crosses over a slum colony and work has begun wherever titles are clear. Dighe station, a part of the same project, is also progressing well. This will be the point from where the new elevated line will start," he said.

Another senior official said that the station is adjacent to the point where the Thane-Belapur road crosses over the Thane-Vashi line. This is where trains coming from Vashi will be diverted towards Kalwa to reach Kalyan on the main line. Basic station structures are taking shape and we have called for work orders for escalators and elevators. A rail flyover will take off after this station towards Kalwa as a part of phase two of the project.

The rail flyover has been planned with ballastless track and construction of an elevated Kalwa station above the existing station. The railway line is estimated to cost R476 crore and is aimed at decongesting Thane station and providing direct connectivity between Thane, Kalyan and Navi Mumbai.
