Daily Covid-19 cases in Mumbai drop to 536

Mumbai once again witnessed a drop in both daily Covid-19 cases and the test positivity rate (TPR) on Sunday. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) confirmed 536 new infections, three deaths and a TPR of 1.40 per cent, the lowest this year.

All the three deceased patients were senior citizens and had comorbidities. On Saturday, the civic body had recorded 643 cases, four deaths and a TPR of 1.46 per cent. In the third wave, the highest TPR recorded in Mumbai was 29.9 per cent on January 6.

Around 82 per cent of the patients found Covid-positive on Sunday were asymptomatic. Of the 536 confirmed cases, 98 patients were hospitalised, and 24 of them have been assigned oxygen beds. The city's recovery rate remained constant at 98 per cent, and 1,153 more patients were discharged on Sunday. The doubling rate improved to 730 days.

Maharashtra also saw a significant drop in the number of daily cases. The state health department recorded 9,666 new cases and 66 deaths. The case fatality rate remained constant at 1.83 per cent. A total of 25,175 people were discharged during the day, leaving 1,18,076 active cases across the state as of Sunday.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) registered 1,163 new infections. The Thane Municipal Corporation reported 146 cases, Raigad 113, Navi Mumbai 100, Vasai-Virar 36 and Panvel 83. Besides the fatalities in Mumbai, the MMR reported nine deaths, including six in Raigad and three in Thane. On Sunday, the state reported no new Omicron cases.
