The temporary structures set up by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) at Mulund and BKC managed to withstand the gusty winds brought in by cyclone Tauktae on Monday, but the Dahisar Covid-19 centre suffered damage, which would take the civic body at least two to three days to repair. However, the BMC had already shifted all the patients from these centres to the NESCO and Seven Hills units on Saturday and Sunday.

About 243 patients were shifted from the BKC centre, 183 from Dahisar and 154 from the Mulund jumbo centre. Mulund also has a permanent structure, where 22 ICU patients are undergoing treatment.

Apart from the damage that the Dahisar centre faced, it also suffered water leakage issues. "The jumbo centre at Dahisar checknaka suffered damage. Though it is not severe, it will take at least two to three days to repair the structure and no patients can be admitted during the period," said an official from the centre.
Dr. Deepa Shriyan, head of the Dahisar Covid-19 centre said, "The centre suffered minimal damage. No water has entered the centre." She added that the administration section at the ICU unit of Kandarpada had been dismantled and was not damaged due to the cyclone.
Though photos of damage to the BKC centre went viral on Monday, the BMC later clarified that it was not due to the cyclone and that the administration had removed the waiting room to avoid any untoward incident.
"There is some damage to the shed at the compound but the main structure of the Covid-19 centre is intact and there isn't any waterlogging, water leakage or damages to any machinery. We removed the shed outside the centre three days ago as a precautionary measure," said Dr. Rajesh Dere, head of the BKC centre.
Many vaccination centres located at temporary sheds faced major damage due to the high-speed winds. "The Covid-19 vaccination centre at Samaj Kalyan Centre in IC Colony suffered damage and it needs immediate repairs. It will be shut on May 18 and 19," said Tejasvi Gosalkar, corporator of Dahisar.
