Even as the fire brigade had said that the final report on the cause of the fire at One Avighna Park would take time as many witnesses were yet to come forward to record their statements, a preliminary report submitted to the BMC's standing committee on Tuesday said a short circuit in a flat on the 19th floor triggered the mishap.

"The exact cause of the fire is under investigation but in preliminary investigations it is revealed that the fire was reported in flat no 1902 on the 19th floor. The fire started from the main electricity distribution board of the flat due to short circuit in it," reads the report.

The fire brigade said a police complaint has been filed and an investigation is ongoing. "Further, as the fire fighting equipments in that society were not kept in proper working condition, a show cause notice is issued to concerned stakeholders," adds the report.

The report says the water pressure was low initially and it became a huge challenge for firefighting. A fire official said, "The investigation and the final report will be concluded by a committee under the additional municipal commissioner in the coming days."
