While on her morning walk, a 60-year-old woman was targeted by motorcycle-borne chain snatchers in Nalasopara West on Saturday. The incident was captured on the CCTV camera installed at a house located on the same road. The police are trying to gather more leads from the footage.
According to police sources, the incident occurred at around 6 am at Nala D'silva Nagar when the victim, Gangu Bai Vartak, was heading home after throwing garbage in a bin situated a few meters from her house. "This was her routine, and it looks like the robbers had kept an eye on her. The pillion rider got off and started following her before snatching the chain and fleeing the spot," said a police official from Nalasopara police station.

"My father rushed out of the house when he heard Vartak screaming. Later, other neighbours gathered, too, but by then, it was too late," said Rostan Lopes, who resides in the locality.

The TV camera installed at his residence captured the incident.
"The whole incident was captured on the CCTV camera. We are trying to trace the accused using the footage. A case under Section 392 has been registered against unknown accused and we are investigating the case," said an officer from the police station.
