COVID-19: Maharashtra records 3,729 cases and 72 deaths

With numbers in the state and the city staying at well above 3,000 and 500 respectively, Maharashtra on Thursday recorded 3,729 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total tally to 19.58 lakh, while the city recorded 665 fresh cases

With numbers in the state and the city staying at well above 3,000 and 500 respectively, Maharashtra on Thursday recorded 3,729 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total tally to 19.58 lakh, while the city recorded 665 fresh cases. The state recorded 72 COVID-related deaths, taking the total to 49,897. The Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation recorded 124, 81 and 124 cases respectively.

The state's recovery rate now stands at 94.78 per cent with 3,350 patients discharged on Thursday. Mumbai's recovery rate stands at 93 per cent, while the doubling rate is improving, currently being 366 days.

The city's daily growth rate is now at 0.21 per cent as the total count now stands at 2.96 lakh cases. The city has 7,756 active cases. The state's mortality rate stands at 2.55 per cent. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state is 1,165. These deaths include cases where patients recovered from COVID-19 and died later due to other complications.

The state saw 1.39 crore samples collected, out of which 19.58 lakh tested positive with the positivity rate being 14.84 per cent.

Among the deaths, Pune led with 10 deaths, followed by Mumbai at seven. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), excluding the city, recorded seven deaths, taking the total tally of MMR to 14.

According to civic officials, of the seven deaths in Mumbai, all patients were suffering from other ailments and five were senior citizens.
