COVID-19: Daily cases drop by 1,722 in Mumbai; Maharashtra below 60,000

Mumbai’s recovery rate is at 82 per cent and the doubling rate now stands at 42 days, both improving since the last couple of days, said officials. The city’s growth in the last one week has been nearly 1.64 per cent.

After showing a slight dip for a day, daily COVID cases in Maharashtra jumped beyond 60,000 on Thursday. The numbers remained below 10,000 and dropped by over 1,700 over Wednesday. While 349 were killed by the virus in Maharashtra, Mumbai's fatality figure touched 50.

The state recorded 61,695 new cases, taking the tally to 36.39 lakh. The overall fatalities have risen to 59,153.

Mumbai reported 8,209 fresh cases against Wednesday's count of 9,931. The MMR recorded 16,906 cases in 24 hours, with Thane, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan Dombivali adding 1,597, 1,184 and 1,611 infections respectively.

The state's recovery rate stands at 81.3 per cent, with 53,335 patients discharged in 24 hours. The active cases in the state number 6,20,060.

The city has so far seen 5.5 lakh positive cases. There are 85,494 active cases in the city. In 24 hours, Mumbai saw 10,097 patients getting discharged, way higher than fresh cases in the city.

The mortality rate of the state has remained steady at 1.63 per cent. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state was 1,586 so far. These are the cases where patients were positive before testing negative but later died due to other complications.

While the civic body said 49 people died in Mumbai, the state showed the figure as 50. Of these, 26 were comorbid and 31 deaths were of senior citizens. MMR saw 82 deaths.

The state has so far carried out 2.3 crore tests, while the city has seen 48.01 lakh tests.

46,763 get the shots

The total turnout of senior citizens, those aged 45 and above and health and frontline workers for vaccines on Thursday was 46,743. Civic officials said the numbers include those inoculated in the second shift on Wednesday and Thursday's first shift. There were 5 cases of adverse reactions.
