The BMC and the state-run and private hospitals have given over 10 lakh vaccines till Thursday. Out of these, 8.7 lakh people have taken the first dose and 1.37 lakh have taken both the doses.

The vaccination drive started in January with the inoculation of healthcare workers. Eventually, vaccination started for frontline workers and from March 1 onwards, senior citizens and people with comorbidities would take the vaccines. Though the initial response was good, now the number of people coming for vaccination has started dipping. Until now, 10,08,323 doses of vaccines have been given. On Thursday, 34,495 people went for vaccination, out of which 18,467 were senior citizens and 3,758 were people with comorbidities.

The BMC has set a target of vaccinating at least one lakh people per day and started an awareness campaign at ward levels. The central government has given approvals to 21 private hospitals to start vaccination centres and vaccinations will start soon here. There are a total of 106 hospitals (civic, government-run and private) which conduct vaccinations. Of these, 66 are private hospitals.
