At 419 deaths, Maharashtra recorded the highest number of COVID-related deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total deaths to 59,970.

The city saw 8,811 fresh cases, while MMR recorded 17,975 cases on Saturday. The Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan Dombivli Corporation recorded 1,593, 1,175 and 1,453 cases, respectively.

Mumbai's recovery rate is slightly higher at 82 per cent, while the doubling rate now stands at 44 days. Vaccine shortage, however, continues to grip the city. The BMC on Saturday said that many private centres may not be able to operate on Sunday due to the shortage.

Meanwhile, to reduce vehicular movement and traffic jams during the lockdown, the Mumbai Police on Saturday announced a three-colour code policy for private vehicles. Cops have allowed plying of vehicles belonging to medical, consumables or essential services till lockdown orders are in place.
