After recording the lowest test positivity rate (TPR) on Tuesday and single digit fatalities, Mumbai saw a jump in TPR, fatalities, as well as new cases on Wednesday. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, there were 863 new cases and 23 deaths across Mumbai on Wednesday. The TPR was 2.27%.
The TPR fell below 2% for the first time in the second wave on Monday and on Tuesday it was 1.76% . June 6 was for the first time in the second wave that the TPR dipped below 3%.
The city reported the highest number of cases - 11,163 - on April 4 and then the declining trend started. There has been a steady fall in the test positivity rate after May 5 when the TPR was recorded at 10.96%. The doubling rate, on Wednesday marginally improved and was 728 days.
Of the 23 deaths, 17 patients had comorbidities, 12 deaths were in the age group over 60 while nine deaths were reported in the 40-60 age group. On June 8, the city reported single digit Covid-19 fatalities for the first time in the second wave.

The city's recovery rate continues to be at 95 per cent and there were 711 people who recovered and were discharged on Wednesday.
Maharashtra recorded a significant rise in Covid-19 new cases as the figures crossed the 10,000 mark with 10,066 cases on Wednesday. However the Covid-19 fatalities dipped marginally as 163 deaths were reported across the state. On Monday, the state saw Covid-19 fatalities below 100. The state's case fatality rate remained constant at 1.99% on Wednesday. At least 11,032 people recovered and got discharged on Wednesday. Currently the state has 1.21 lakh active cases.
Like the state, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a rise in new cases and Covid-19 fatalities. The MMR reported 2,515 cases on Wednesday, including the ones in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Palghar with 187 and Raigad with 648 reported the maximum new cases in MMR.
Thane reported 85 new cases while Kalyan-Dombivili saw 125 cases and Navi Mumbai reported 114 new cases each on Wednesday. In MMR, excluding Mumbai, there were 13 Covid-19 fatalities on Wednesday. Raigad reported 5 deaths and Mira-Bhayandar registered 4 deaths, the highest in MMR after Mumbai. Thane saw 3 and Navi Mumbai reported one death.
