After witnessing a rise in the test positivity rate (TPR), Mumbai saw a marginal dip on Wednesday even though more tests were conducted compared to Tuesday. However, the city saw a jump in daily Covid-19 cases as the number crossed the 400 mark along with a marginal rise in fatalities due to the infection. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, 488 new cases were reported on Wednesday along with four deaths. The TPR was 1.20 per cent.
All the four deceased had comorbidities and were above 60 years of age. The doubling rate improved and was 1,187 days on Wednesday. The city's recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 359 people were discharged after full recovery on Wednesday.
The state's Covid-19 cases saw a significant rise on Wednesday but the number remained below the 3,000 mark. As per the state health department report, 3,608 cases were reported. Maharashtra saw a significant dip in the number of deaths at 48. The state's case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 3,608 people recovered and got discharged on Wednesday. The state has 39,984 active cases. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a significant rise in cases on Wednesday.
As per the state report, 1,011 cases were reported in the MMR, including the ones from Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Raigad registered 82 cases each followed by Kalyan-Dombivli with 75 cases. Panvel saw 68 cases, Thane Municipal Corporation 69 cases, Mira-Bhayandar reported 39 cases and Vasai-Virar 56 cases. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered three Covid-19 fatalities on Wednesday. Navi Mumbai and Mira-Bhayandar saw one death each.
