Covid-19: Mumbai’s fresh cases breach the 500 mark

Mumbai saw a significant rise in new Covid-19 cases as the daily figure breached the 500 mark along with a rise in the test positivity rate (TPR). The fatalities due to the infection reported on Wednesday were same as the previous day.

As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, 527 new cases were reported on Wednesday along with six deaths. The TPR was 1.42 per cent. While three of the deceased had comorbidities, one was in the age group of 40 to 60 years and five were above 60 years of age.

The state's Covid-19 cases saw a marginal rise on Wednesday as cases crossed the 3,000 mark. As per the state health department report, 3,187 cases were reported. The state's Covid-19 fatalities, however, saw a significant fall as 49 deaths were reported.

Maharashtra's case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 3,253 people were discharged after full recovery. The state has 36,675 active cases. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a marginal rise in new cases on Wednesday. As per the state report, 1,064 cases were reported in the MMR, including those from Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivili reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR at 97, followed by Raigad with 94 cases. While Navi Mumbai saw 66 cases, Thane and Mira-Bhayandar witnessed 40 cases each. Vasai-Virar had 46 cases and Panvel reported 63 cases. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered two deaths on Wednesday. Mira-Bhayandar and Palghar reported one death each.
