Covid-19: Mumbai's daily cases stay above 3,000; deaths drop

A day after rising sharply, the daily Covid-19 tally in the city dropped on Thursday, but remained above 3,000. According to the data received by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai recorded 3,056 new cases in a span of 24 hours and 69 deaths.

Out of the 69 deceased patients, 18 had comorbidities, 45 were senior citizens and 21 were in the age group of 40-60. A total 3,838 patients were discharged on Thursday after recovery. The recovery rate in the city has stabilised at 90 per cent. The doubling rate continues to improve and stands at 130 days as of now.

For the second consecutive days, the state saw a rise in new Covid-19 cases but a drop in fatalities. On Thursday, as per the state health department's report, 62,194 new infections and 853 fatalities were confirmed. Maharashtra's case fatality rate was 1.49 per cent.

Across the state, 63,842 patients recovered and were discharged on Thursday, and around 6.3 lakh patients are currently undergoing treatment. The recovery rate remained steady at 85.54 per cent.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported a significant drop in daily tally with 8,525 confirmed cases, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Besides Mumbai, Raigad and Vasai-Virar reported the maximum number of new cases in the MMR, with 948 and 937 cases, respectively. Thane recorded 617 cases, Navi Mumbai 288 and Kalyan-Dombivli 606.

At 55 new fatalities, there was a drop in daily deaths in the MMR and the figure excluded the city's. Out of these 55 casualties, 10 were reported in Thane, 6 in Raigad, 12 in Navi Mumbai, 14 in Panvel.
