After reporting a rise in cases and test positivity rate (TPR) over the weekend, Mumbai saw a dip in both on Sunday. As per the BMC report, 700 new cases were reported and the TPR was at 2.32 per cent, one of the lowest in the past few days.

After recording the lowest daily Covid-19 numbers in the second wave on June 3, Mumbai saw a rise in cases earlier last week but the numbers remained below the 1,000 mark. June 6 was the first time in the second wave that the TPR dipped below 3 per cent.
The city reported the highest number of cases - 11,163 on April 4 and then the declining trend started. There has been a steady fall in the test positivity rate after May 5 when the TPR was recorded at 10.96 per cent. The doubling rate has continued to significantly improve and is now at 653 days.

Of the 19 deaths in Mumbai, 11 patients had comorbidities. 10 patients were in the age group of 60 years and above, while two deaths were reported in the 40-60 years age group. On June 8, the city had reported single-digit Covid-19 fatalities for the first time in the second wave.
The city's recovery rate continues to be at 95 per cent and there were 704 people discharged on Sunday.
Maharashtra saw a marginal drop in new cases on Sunday but a significant rise in Covid-19 fatalities. As per the state report, 10,442 new cases were reported across the state. The state saw 483 deaths.
The state's fatality rate has been seeing a steady rise and on Sunday was 1.88 per cent, while 7,504 people recovered and got discharged. Currently, the state has 1.55 lakh active cases.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a marginal drop in new cases. The MMR reported 2,056 cases on Sunday, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Palghar with 211 and Raigad with 526 reported the maximum new cases in MMR. Thane and Kalyan-Dombivili reported 104 new cases each and Navi Mumbai reported 65 new cases.
MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 72 Covid-19 fatalities. While Palghar registered 53 deaths, the highest in MMR, Panvel registered six and Kalyan-Dombivili reported two deaths.
